Actually, this post has been sitting in my 'drafts' collection since Jan this year... So, since I will be away from 17th - 21st June, and will be a bit tied up with some stuffs after that, I thought of posting something to share with my dear viewers. So, here it goes...
Lampwork beads are made by melting rods and tubes of clear and coloured glass. This process uses a gas fueled torch. Once in a molten state, the glass is formed by blowing and shaping with tools and hand movements. (You can find out more about lampworking here.)
I love lampwork beads, especially designers' sets... Remember, in my previous post where I gave the links of 2 great sites on lampwork beads? Well, not long after that, I came across an article which led me to a studio that teaches lampworking in Malaysia. I was very surprised (and excited at the same time) to know there is actually lampworking course available here! I would love to attend the course as I dream to make my own beads someday :)
Last year, I managed to purchase a few sets of exclusive handmade lampwork beads from a local online store. So, before I used them to make any jewelries, I e-mailed Kerry Bogert and asked for her advice on caring for jewelries made with lampwork beads. She replied, "Caring for lampwork beads in jewelry is simple. Lampwork beads that have been properly annealed before being used are very durable, just not indestructible. So, treat the beads respectfully and they can last generations. They don't like being dropped on concrete or ceramic floors, they can chip or break." Thanks for the tips, Kerry! They were very useful...
